We’re pleased to have taken part in the ACP-EU Culture webinar that took place on the 9th -10th June 2021 from 12.00 to 13.00 EAT.
This was a two-day international webinar with the theme, “Towards a sustainable cultural and creative industry in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries”.
Implemented by the Secretariat of the ACP Group of States and funded by the European Union, the « ACP-EU towards a viable cultural industry » programme (ACP-EU CULTURE) intends to boost the potential of the cultural and creative sector and its contribution to the social and economic development of the ACP countries.
Organised under the aegis of the Organisation of the ACP States and the European Union, the event will be the ideal framework to highlight the potential of the ACP-EU Culture Programme’s actions, to anchor them in the current issues that have an impact on the sustainability of cultural and creative industries in ACP countries.
Our founder Chao Tayiana Maina who moderated the topic, ‘Towards a more inclusive cultural and creative industry. From principle to reality’ begun with the words
” I’d like to single out three key words from the topic. These are the words “inclusive”, “principles” and “reality”. I single them out because while there may be standard definition on what they mean, these terms are understood differently and are relative to the contexts in which they are applied.
While we talk about inclusivity, too often, however, there are still individuals and groups who suffer from discrimination and social or economic exclusion.”
The panels of discussion, which will saw the participation of national, regional and International Organizations’ representatives, as well as several local cultural operators, were designed to question and put into perspective the new challenges faced during the COVID-19 crisis by creative and cultural industries in the ACP countries and share good practices of the sector’s resilience and recovery.
