Arts Council of the African Studies Association triennial

/

We’re excited to have taken part in the acasa triennial project on 11th-12th June 2021.

ACASA, the Arts Council of the African Studies Association, promotes greater understanding of African material and expressive culture in all its many forms, and encourages contact and collaboration with African and Diaspora artists and scholars.

Our founder, Chao Tayiana Maina participated as a panelist alongside Candace Keller, Erica Nemis, & Youssouf Sakaly (Archive of Malian Photography), Abba Tijani (Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments), Nelson Abiti (Uganda National Museum) and El Hadji Malick Ndiaye (The Museum of Black Civilizations, Senegal).

This panel focused on museum and material heritage priorities and international partnerships that are led by Africa-based institutions and specialists.

The panel also looked beyond debates about restitution that currently dominate African heritage dialogues in Europe and North America to address a wider slate of priorities for Africa’s Museum and material heritage sectors. The round table will focus on initiatives and international partnerships that are led by Africa-based institutions and specialists. Presentations will highlight a range of issues, followed by moderated discussion and questions from the audience.
