African Digital Heritage is pleased to be taking part in the Discovering Collections Discovering Communities(DCDC) Conference 2022 which runs from the 11th – 15th July 2022. The DCDC conference aims to show the role of digital innovation in transforming the cultural heritage and academic sectors and their relationship with their audiences. This conference will also seek to show how research is reimagining how our collections are formed and preserved, how audiences engage with and contribute to our work, and how we plan for the future.
Championing creativity and talent within the GLAMA (galleries, libraries, archives, museums and academia) sector and exploring digital solutions at scale, DCDC22 is a forum for knowledge-exchange between organizations and individuals at all levels.
Our director, Chao Tayiana Maina, will be having the pleasure of giving a keynote address on the digital innovation in GLAM whose title is, Beyond digital infrastructure, a community centered model for digital innovation within cultural heritage on 13/07/2022 at 12.30hrs-13.30hrs EAT.
For innovation to truly be inclusive we have to go beyond the centering of the technology (i.e hardware and software) as the main point of convergence and move towards broadening our definition of infrastructure – by viewing communities, indigenous knowledge and collections as an integral part of digital ecosystems. I will be drawing on my experiences starting several projects here in Kenya and the wider African cultural landscape, citing lessons learnt, practical approaches and visions for sustainable digital practice.
