Goethe Institut will be running a “Museum Conversation” series in several German cities, hosted by local museums. This series of panel discussions started at Gropius Bau in Berlin in mid-May, and is set to continue in Bayreuth, Munich and Dresden.
Our director, Chao Tayiana Maina joins other panelists at Lenbachhaus, Munich on May 24th 2022 on conversations around (Post-)Colonial Ownership and Cooperation in the Age of Globalization.
This panel discussion will touch on how to think of museums as hubs of global curatorial and artistic cooperation, and the different ways that participation, access and ownership of cultural heritage can be shaped differently. The argument here is that even beyond questions of colonial heritage, the global action of cultural institutions is up for debate in the face of climate change, the COVID19 pandemic, rising commodity prices and intensifying geopolitical conflicts. The forum hopes to idealize what kind of cooperation – local and global, physical and digital – is possible and desirable in construing the museum of the future.
