This two-day international meeting aims to celebrate the significant milestones of the 70th anniversary of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict (1954) and the 25th anniversary of its 1999 Second Protocol. Recognising the important role that new technologies, can assume in the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage, the meeting will explore innovative approaches to safeguarding cultural properties. It will examine the progress in 3D scanning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies that have revolutionized the way we document, protect and restore ancient artefacts, monuments and buildings in the face of armed conflicts and other crises.
The meeting will be organized by the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia in close collaboration with UNESCO.

Additional Activities
The event will also feature interactive sessions and demonstrations that showcase practical applications of new technologies in the safeguarding and restoration of cultural heritage, specifically at Matenadaran and the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies. Additionally, participants will embark on a guided tour of the Monastery of Geghard, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Thematic Panel Two– “Cultural Heritage Preservation and Restoration through Digital Technologies and AI”.
This panel will examine the role of new and emerging technologies in the documentation, analysis, virtual reconstruction, and restoration of heritage assets. It will explore how innovations such as 3D scanning, AI, digital archiving, and augmented reality are preserving cultural assets and enhancing the way we interact with them. The panel will also focus on implementing new and emerging technologies in educational and training programmes for the preservation of cultural heritage.
