The Unmuseum Cultural & Heritage Programme Autumn 2022

/

African Digital Heritage is delighted to take part in the The UnMuseum Cultural & Heritage Programme on 2nd of November 2022 which is hosted by the Black South West Network. This programme seeks to explore the opportunities provided by community archiving in empowering people to make decisions about how their stories should be collected, organized, and shared, empowering people to do this work.

Museums are commonly looked at as collectors of the past, a past curated by oppressors who often manipulated or erased the culture, heritage and contributions of the oppressed but new technologies bring opportunities for the reclamation of that past and present.

Our Outreach Manager, Mutanu Kyany’a will be participating in a panel discussion on 2 November 2022, 17:00 – 19:00 GMT . Their topic of discussion will be Digitization & Disruption. They will seek to understand whether digitization in the cultural heritage space allows us to disrupt the traditional (physical) museum space while navigating issues around copyright and ownership.

They will also explore the opportunities provided by community archiving in empowering people to make decisions about how their stories should be collected, organized, and shared, empowering people to do this work.
